Pre-registration Information
What is pre-registration?
We will be using a system of "pre-registration" where students register for the courses they will be studying in the following academic year. This enables us to compile the timetable for next academic year, and to reduce the amount of administration in September for returning students.
For students where there is a full list of compulsory modules, these modules will be automatically entered into the University's system for you.
For those students who have some choice about the modules they take, it is your responsibility to make sure that you enter your choices into the University's system. You will have from Friday 6th May - Wednesday 11th May 2011 at 8.00pm to make your choices in the S3P system. You will receive messages from the University about how to do this nearer the time. (See below for more information.)
To make your choices you will need to read information about:
- the options available to you in the Regulations: CS programmes, IS programmes
- a full list of modules taught in the School is at: http://www.cs.ncl.ac.uk/modules/2010. (Students at Stage 2 take CSC2XXX, Students at Stage 3 take CSC3XXX.)
- individual modules at: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/internal/module-catalogue/ (for modules external to the School).
Career Development modules:

- Talks on Volunteering 28th March 10-12am/2-4pm; and 30th March 11am-1pm – King’s Gate 1.26 – email adc.union@ncl.ac.uk to book a place.
Business School modules:
- Information sessions about Business School modules are on Wednesday 23rd March, 12-1pm, in Lecture Theatre 163, Ground Floor Ridley 2 Building.
Copies of the slides from the Pre-registration Briefings are available:
- for all current Stage 1 students entering Stage 2
- for all current Stage 2 Computing Science students entering Stage 3
- for all current Stage 2 Information Systems students entering Stage 3
Having read the above information, you may still need to discuss your options with your tutor or another member of staff.
Changing Course? Want to do something unusual?
It may be that you are considering taking an unusual module (i.e. one not specified in the regulations) or changing your degree programme for the next Stage. In this case, you will need signed agreement from Dr Alan Tully, the Degree Programme Director, to allow you to do this. You must contact Dr Tully not later than Tuesday 3rd May if you wish to do this.
