The University's Careers Service has an excellent collection of resources and services to help you find the right job. You can find placements, graduate opportunities or IT-based Newcastle Work Experience placements on the Careers Service website by ticking "Newcastle Work Experience" on the Vacancies Online page. Undergraduate Industrial PlacementsIf you are registered on one of the "thick sandwich" versions of the Computing Science or Information Systems degrees, an industrial placement after completion of Stage 2 is compulsory. If you are considering a placement, it is possible to transfer onto this degree once you have obtained an approved placement. Please see the School's Placement Handbook for more details. InternshipsInternships are an alternative way of getting employment experience without taking a year out. An internship will usually take place over the summer vacation. Codeworks Connect runs a paid summer internship scheme (which they call a placement scheme) for students and recent graduates, with local companies in the digital sector. STEP (Shell Technology Enterprise Programme, www.step.org.uk) is a popular scheme open to 2nd year undergraduates to spend 8-12 weeks in the summer on a paid internship. |
